Canyonlands National Park is divided into distinct districts, each with its own unique character and opportunities for exploration. Today, we’re spotlighting two of the most accessible and captivating areas: Island in the Sky and The Needles.

• Island in the Sky: The most accessible district, offering sweeping vistas from high atop the mesas. The scenic driving routes and short hikes here provide some of the best panoramic views in the Southwest.
• The Needles: Named for its colorful spires of Cedar Mesa Sandstone, this area is a hiker’s paradise with trails that weave through rock formations and ancient ruins.

Iconic Sights and Hikes

Canyonlands is packed with iconic landmarks and trails that highlight the park’s geological grandeur. Here are some must-see sights and hikes in the featured districts:

• Mesa Arch (Island in the Sky): Just a short hike from the roadway, this arch frames an incredible view of the canyons below and is particularly stunning at sunrise.

A Family Memory to Treasure
